Parque Natural da Ria Formosa

PROJECT: Part of Drawing for the Ocean, funded by Culture Moves Europe

DATE: October 2024

***

This Ria Formosa infographic takes the form of a bigger-scale map of the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa in Algarve, Portugal — a vibrant, shifting lagoon system shaped by tides and ocean currents. It visualizes the unique marine biodiversity found in the area, emphasizing the vital ecological role of seagrass meadows in oceanic carbon storage.

In this rich visual I had to emphasize flamingos — symbolic residents of the wetlands — alongside seahorses, fish, and shellfish like gilt-head bream, sea bass, and red mullet. Together, its the story of a protected ecosystem deeply intertwined with climate resilience and natural beauty.
